Club tournament

We run a club tournament every year with a finals day in September. The entries largely come from people who play in our teams and club sessions, but we are keen to involve all users of the tennis courts at Blackbrook and would like to run different events for different playing standards, making sure that everyone gets a few games against others of a similar level.

We play the doubles events on finals day in September. The early rounds of the singles events are played in July and August. We try to play the finals on the day. We all bring food on finals day, and it's a nice social occasion.

Club tournament 2018

Men's singles:
Laurence Paul beat Oli Knowles 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Mixed doubles:
David Walter and Sophie Butland beat Oli Knowles and Kelly Cunningham 7-6(5).
Men's doubles:
Oli Knowles and Shingo Yamada beat Mike Lynch and David Walter 6-2.
Women's doubles:
Sue Williamson and Kelly Cunningham beat Karin Sladden and Debbie Leslie 6-3, 6-0.

Club tournament 2017

There was a fair bit of rain, but thankfully we were able to switch to the indoor courts after the first hour or so. 

Mixed doubles

• Elliott Rugg and Hayley Collins beat Marius Vaida and Yasmin Austin 6-3 in the final.
• Elliott and Hayley were worthy winners, especially after pulling through a terrific semi-final against Oli Knowles and Alice Yarde, which was a real cliffhanger.
• There were originally ten pairs for the mixed doubles, but we ended up with nine due to a last-minute injury.

Men's doubles

• Oli Knowles and Shingo Yamada beat Sergio Rodriguez and Mike Lynch 6-1 in the final.
• Oli and Shingo came through a tough group, winning against both David Walter and Elliott Rugg and Matt Bowley and Glenn Clarke.

Women's doubles

• Alice Yarde and Hayley Collins beat Karin Sladden and Angela Tinnion 6-1.

Men's singles

• The doubles went on so long that we had to play the singles final a few days later. Elliott Rugg played a blinder, beating Glenn Clarke 6-1, 6-2.
