Taunton Tennis Club and Taunton Tennis Centre: what's the difference?

We, the club, work closely with the leisure centre management company, GLL (Better Leisure), which is a social enterprise and runs Taunton Tennis Centre. Together, we try to offer all the playing opportunities you would expect from a local club at a competitive price. 

​So, just to be clear:

• We are Taunton Tennis Club. The club is based at Taunton Tennis Centre.
• Our members benefit from free or discounted courts and sessions (depending on their membership package).
• You can either join as a member to get that kind of access, or you can just use the facilities on a pay-and-play basis.
• If you play regularly, it makes financial sense to become a member.
• If you want to play for our teams, you have to become a member.
• Whether or not you join as a member, we’ll be delighted if you become part of the tennis-playing community at this wonderful facility.
• We pay our membership subscriptions and court fees at reception or online to Everyone Active, which runs Taunton Tennis Centre.

Club histories are generally of most interest to their own members, but here it is quickly anyway...

The club has existed in one form or another for over a hundred years. It was originally established in 1911 as Woodstock Tennis Club in Woodstock Road, just off Staplegrove Road. In 1993 it moved to Blackbrook and became Taunton Tennis Club, which had four outdoor courts. Finally, in 2006 the club’s members agreed to merge with Tone Leisure, the leisure centre management company at that time, in order to bring all 12 courts on the site under a single management structure and facilitate access to the indoor courts. ​​​
