David Walter (chairman) Karin Sladden Kerry Quirk (tennis centre manager) Mike Lynch Oli Knowles Shingo Yamada We hold informal meetings in the clubhouse or the pub every couple of months to which all club members are invited. We do the best we can to provide everyone with playing opportunities and help the club thrive. If you love tennis and are looking for a club, or you'd just like to give tennis a try, we'd really like to urge you to join us. Maybe some of our own stories of why we ended up here will strike a chord with you: David: "I joined because I loved the idea of being able to play in comfort all year round. Since then I've become really involved in the doubles leagues too. I hope as chairman to see more people play more often at Taunton Tennis Club." Mike: "I took up tennis when my kids got to a certain age and family life became less intensive. I wish I'd made time for it sooner. At first I was worried I wouldn't be good enough to play at such a swanky facility. I wasn't very good when I started, but it didn't matter, and I soon improved. There are people of all standards playing here, and if you want to improve, like me, it's a fantastic place to play at. There are some great coaches and plenty of people to play either singles or doubles with. And thanks to the indoor courts, you can count on being able to play all year round, whatever the weather." Nigel: "Having had a long time away from club tennis I joined a small, local club, which was fun for a couple of seasons, but limited. Taunton Tennis Club gave me a chance to play with more people at my particular level plus it has a strong link with the indoor facilities of Blackbrook Pavilion. After a winter of indoor games and the occasional Saturday outdoor club afternoon, the next thing was playing a few league matches. Before I knew it I was running the men’s North Somerset Tennis League team. The summer league season is only four months so there is still plenty of time to play Wednesday club night and arrange games with friends made through the club." Shingo: "I joined primarily because the club offered unlimited access to six indoor courts as well as six outdoor courts, guaranteeing year-round tennis. To be honest, I initially joined another local club, but one winter the weather was so bad I could hardly play any tennis at all. I just got so frustrated. There is a good selection of coaches here, you can play loads of competitive tennis, either singles or doubles, and I've found people who are committed to improving their skills on a daily basis, like myself! I also like the flexibility, in other words being able to plan my tennis schedule without worrying about the weather." |
